This week’s edition is titled … LEAP OF FAITH
Okay, just about everyone in the world has seen “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.” A famous clip from the movie is in the video above. Please take a look at it (it’s less than two minutes) so it can set the table for today’s post.
Now then, when Indy lifts his foot and takes this famous “leap of faith,” the metaphor explodes across the screen. It’s perhaps the most poignant moment in the entire film. What has always impressed me is the actual filming angle. You see, Indy cannot see the stone walkway in front of him. But a simple pan of the camera shows that he has nothing to worry about. The view from Indy’s perspective is that he’ll die if he takes that leap. But the real perspective shows something different.
In the same way, our feeble human perspective often cannot see how God is/will protect us when we take leaps of faith. To my way of thinking, this is the only way to live—by faith which depends on God’s more powerful perspective. I believe the Lord teaches us to depend on Him in many ways. Unfortunately, our fallen human nature will try to take on this world without Him. This is both frightening and fruitless.
Do you have any leaps of faith God is calling you into? If so, think about Indy and what he didn’t see—God’s powerful hand protecting Him.I’m not suggesting anyone should do crazy things. I’m suggesting that it is impossible to please God without faith (see Hebrews 11:6). Think about that next time you’re facing a crisis. If you follow God’s will for your life, the chasm of death may indeed have a stone path of protection you cannot see or even imagine.
Have a great week!
